Puritan Prayers – Grace Active

O God, may your Spirit speak in me that I may speak to you. Lord Jesus, great high priest, You have opened a new and living way by which a fallen creature can approach you with acceptance.

Help me to contemplate the dignity of Your Person, the perfectness of Your sacrifice, the effectiveness of Your intercession.

O what blessedness accompanies devotion, when under all the trials that weary me, the cares that corrode me, the fears that disturb me, the infirmities that oppress me, I can come to You in my need and feel peace beyond understanding!

The grace that restores is necessary to preserve, lead, guard, supply, help me.  And here Your saints encourage my hope; they were once poor and are now rich, bound and are now free, tried and now are victorious.

Every new duty calls for more grace than I now possess, but not more than is found in You, the divine treasury in whom all fullness dwells.  To You I repair for grace upon grace, until every void made by sin be replenished and I am filled with all Your fullness.

May my desires be enlarged and my hopes emboldened, that I may honor You by my entire dependency and the greatness of my expectation.

Be with me, and prepare me for all the smiles of prosperity, the frowns of adversity, the losses of substance, the death of friends, the days of darkness, the changes of life, and the last great change of all. May I find your grace sufficient for all my needs.

Day 4

I apologize for not posting a major update yesterday, and to be honest I was just tired.

It’s been a full two days. Lots of work got done on the first day on the job, and I can say without any doubt in my mind that the weather this year has been better than the weather last year. The only real issue was some rain today that caused a delay in getting started at some job sites, but all in all it’s been cool and comfortable the whole time.

I’ve been fired and rehired no less than four times by the youth today for refusing to mount an expedition to Zaxby’s. We did however take the traditional trip to Walmart tonight to pick up forgotten necessities. Forgotten necessities actually turned out to be exhausted nonessentials.

Most everybody bought snacks.

Tonight at worship was the Concert of Prayer. Concert of Prayer is a night devoted entirely to prayer and worship, starting specifically with your group and expanding out in steps to pray for the spread of the Gospel throughout the entire world.

Four missionaries also were targeted through the evening, and their specific prayer requests were handed out on cards. There were prayer stations set up for each missionary and their area of ministry so that everyone could write down encouragement and let the missionaries know what they were praying for.

I’m attaching a picture that I managed to grab during worship. Please continue to pray for safety, endurance, and above all for the Gospel to be spread through our work!

Day 2

This is going to be a relatively short update…we hit the job sites tomorrow and will be out all day.

Today the agenda was for all groups to meet their host churches. Each group’s host church is responsible for providing meals throughout the week at the job site. We we t to Sunday School and church with them and then had lunch before seeing our job sites.

We’re looking forward to the weather…the forecast says that it’s supposed to be 86 tomorrow and go down over the course of the week. I’ll take pictures of the job sites I visit and ask the youth to take pictures of each of theirs.

Don’t forget to send encourograms! Sass was feeling a bit under the weather earlier tonight but he’s feeling better now…still, continue to pray for him.

Lastly, here are some pictures from over the course of today. Kayla has made it her personal quest to take pictures of everyone on the trip while they’re sleeping, so at some point I’ll post those too.

World Changers 2012 – Day of Arrival

Welcome to the online documentation of Winterville FBC’s World Changers trip! Please keep your sleeves rolled down and boys and girls must stay in their designated hallways…boys are blue, girls are pink, so no purple, please.

I’ll start out with the story of how we ended up at James Breckinridge Middle School.

As recently as three days ago this trip didn’t look likely. Due to the major heatwave that struck the northeast, the vast area surrounding Roanoke, VA did not have power. The school we were scheduled to stay in didn’t have power. Gas stations didn’t have power. Ice companies didn’t have power. The city of Roanoke had actually set up cooling stations powered by generators for the general public to come inside and cool off from the heat before they had to be rotated out so that others could cool off.

Our alternatives to cancellation were slim. Calls were put out for every generator we could find, but there were still issues of ice and gasoline.

But, like God does when His children ask Him, doors were opened to us in a fashion that can be called no less than miraculous.

As opposed to a school with as many fans as we could find, we now have a fully air conditioned school to lodge in. We may be a little cramped, but the alternative is no air conditioning.

I think we’ll be fine.

We go to church with our host churches tomorrow. These are the churches that will be bringing us food on the job during the week. Pray for blessings on them…we couldn’t eat without them!

The theme for this year is The Pursuit, and we’re looking at the way that God relentlessly pursues us and ultimately proves His unfathomable love for us through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
