This. Roof. Is. HOT. (Day 3)

11 Jul

Tonight is probably going to be a short post because, frankly, we are all exhausted and tired. I have an air mattress calling me, and I plan to take full advantage of it.

Today was absolutely brutal. Some kids got sent to the hospital for IV fluids. None of them were ours, but be in prayer for us being outside in this heat. I heard it said once that for a believer, this life is the closest to hell we will ever get. I would like to change this statement a bit. For a believer, being on top of the roof in this ridiculous heat is the closest to hell we will ever get.

Only in terms of temperature, though. The attitudes of everyone on the job site have been great. Tyson actually got mobbed by the media today because one of the neighbors called! They decided that people needed to be told about what was happening.

Speaking of Tyson, he actually worked 2 job sites today. His group was going to run late, so he stayed late at the job site with the camp pastor for the week and finished tarping the roof down until it could be finished tomorrow. The dynamic duo then got a call from central command and heard that another house needed the roof rolled with felt paper. So they piled in the car and felt papered ANOTHER house. Homeboy is a beast.

Other things that happened today (WOW moments):

  • Our youth group hijacked the World Changers radio band. Katie Pursley operates under the alias of “Pink Panther.”
  • Chase actually got to tell somebody that we weren’t, in fact, selling things. Great conversation starter.
  • Hunter was really excited to see all kinds of different churches getting together and worshipping Jesus.
  • Lindsey was still really pumped that the church her crew went to yesterday met in a renovated movie theater.
  • Kyle (quote) “fixed Katie’s sprained ankle with a band-aid.”
  • Tyson was on TV! (He’s also on Channel 11 in St. Louis, but this one was easier to find)
Tonight in worship service, Ron preached out of John 6:44.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Ultimately, everything we do should point people to Jesus. That is how we minister. We point people to Jesus, and the Holy Spirit draws people to Him. It was super easy to think in the heat today that we were just the stuff. There was even media coverage. But if we ever let the eyes focus on us and not on Jesus, we’re playing for the other team. We have to make sure that the worship and magnification of Jesus is paramount in everything we do, say, and stand for.

Not our preferences. Not our traditions. Not our opinions. Jesus.

And also, I have a message I’ve been told to send to the kids here (they’ll see it when they get home and hear it from me here). Parents, I also want you to know this so that you have this perspective on what your kids are doing. My Pastor of my home church, Jason Corbett (HBC!!!) sent this to our kids in an E-Courogram today (YOU CAN SEND ONE TOO BY CLICKING HERE!!):
Tell your students that the work that they are doing is a “good work” – a work designed by God Himself – a work uniquely their own. Every nail driven is a testimony to God, a way that your kids can reflect the saving grace of their great King.
Jason, thanks. It means a lot. To all of you who have sent E-Courograms to the kids, to me, and encouraged us through comments on the blog, believe me. It helps. Your voices are heard and your prayers are effective.
Thanks for all your support, and check back tomorrow for more updates from Missouri! Now. I’m going to bed.

Go big T!!!!! Way to represent us from Georgia and Jesus!! Praying for ya’ll and the heat!!! Some pictures look like there isn’t much shade around some of the work sites. Whew!! Remember you don’t have to worship through song or with a guitar, you can worship in 120 degree heat with a hammer and felt paper!!! Thank you for all that you are doing!!! We love you all to death, but not as much as Jesus loves you!!!

Another WOW Moment from our Youth! I am so proud of them all. Hannah said that the heat index today was up around 120 degrees. If nothing else works for showing what hell will be like ~ just tell them to climb up on a roof top in St. Louis, that is sure to make for some life changing decisions. 🙂 We love you ALL and are praying faithfully for each of you!!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!

We praise God that He is watching over and protecting our youth and leaders. Hannah told me that the heat index today was up around 120 degrees ~ even she was exhausted and ready for bed at 6 pm, and that is saying alot. I think we could have some real life changing experiences if we put folks up on the roof tops in that heat and tell them that this is what the warm setting is going to be like in hell, can you imagine it being even hotter. 🙂
Please keep the updates coming and add photos, too as you can.
Please know that while you are sleeping and working ~ folks are up praying for you.
    Blessings and Love ~

    Dear Youth,

    whatever the challenges that
you might face this week, just
    remember philippians 3:13-
14, “…forgetting what is behind and
straining toward what is ahead, i
press on toward the goal to win the
prize for which God has called me
    heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

and what God said in isaiah 43:18,19…
“forget the former things; do not
dwell on the past. see I am doing a
    new thing!”

    and my favorite…
“for i know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future.” jeremiah 29:11

    there’s more!

“then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. you will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” jeremiah 29:12-14.

Wow! God is soooo good! Amen?!

continually seek Christ as you enjoy
the exciting journey He has for you! God
    bless!!!

Hi Josh, Caleb, and the Entire WFBC WC Team!

Love y’all! Know that y’all are having a great week – working hard and sweatting a lot; but also sharing Jesus with those around you and worshipping Him individually and together as you have your evening worship times and church group devotions! We’re praying for y’all!

    Your Friend, Ronald
